Low Intensity Laser Therapy

Woodbridge Naturopathic Clinic Now Offers Low Intensity Light Therapy (LILT), or LASER.

Our newest therapy is a state of the art Light Therapy System that delivers painless light to tissues that need to be healed.

What is Low Intensity Laser Therapy? Low Intensity Laser Therapy(LILT) is the use of monochromatic light emission from a low intensity laser diode (250mW or less) or an array of high intensity superluminous diodes (providing total optical power in the 10 to 2000mW range) to treat musculoskeletal injuries, chronic and degenerative conditions and to heal wounds. The light source is placed in contact with the damaged tissue, allowing the photon energy to penetrate to various levels. Interaction with certain intracellular micromolecules occurs resulting in the restoration of normal cell morphology, function and the enhancement of the body’s natural healing processes.

What are the physiological effects of Low Intensity Laser Therapy?

Short Term Effects

  • Production and release of beta-endorphins(the body’s natural pain-killers)
  • Cortisol production is increased, enabling the body to combat the stress associated with the trauma or disease process

Long Term-Cumulative Effects

  • Increases ATP levels, improving cellular metabolism
  • Enhances DNA replication, resulting in cell division (replacement of damaged cells)
  • Regulates cell membrane potential, thereby controlling permeability and Na+, Cl¯, Ca2+, K+ ion transmission
  • Increased protein synthesis, providing the building blocks for new cell replication
  • Elevating levels of serotonin and acetylcholine to facilitate neurotransmission
  • Vasodilation-relaxation of smooth muscle in blood vessels which improves arterial circulation and tissue oxygenation
  • Angiogenesis- development of new arterial channels

Additional Effects

  • Immune response stimulated
  • Lymphatic drainage improved
  • Histamine response positively altered
  • Production of growth hormone increased
  • The body’s natural healing processes are enhanced

How long does a laser treatment take?
Typically a treatment is either 30 or 60 minutes.

What is the cost of a treatment?
Treatments are $45 for 30 minutes and $85 for one hour.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments will vary from patient to patient, and depending on the condition being treated. Most patients will need at least 3 treatments, however the average number of treatments to resolve an issue is about 10.

What are the side effects?
Unlike pharmaceutical options, LILT is non-toxic, non-traumatic and non-invasive.

We are currently using the Laser for:
